Hundreds of anti-migrant protesters marched through Portsmouth on Saturday, clashing with police and counter-demonstrators from Stand Up To Racism, resulting in at least three arrests. The event followed warnings from Hampshire Police that anyone covering their face to conceal their identity could be arrested under Crime and Policing Act powers, and came a week after a larger right-wing protest of around 2,000 people blocked access to the Port of Dover.

Roughly 400 protesters and rival activists were involved in scuffles as police tried to keep the two groups apart near Guildhall Square, with officers seen detaining several people, including a man wearing a face covering. Those arrested included a 76-year-old man held for concealing his identity, a 33-year-old man from Portsmouth on suspicion of obstructing a highway, and a 16-year-old boy on suspicion of violent disorder linked to unrest at Eastney Marina. Danny Thomas, organiser of the previous week's Dover protest, said he would not attend but urged supporters to turn out regardless.
