Anya Taylor-Joy’s 148-Minute Sci-Fi Blockbuster Officially Wins Over Fans on Streaming
Furiosa, the Mad Max prequel starring Anya Taylor-Joy and Chris Hemsworth, has found a larger audience on streaming after performing poorly in cinemas. Its continued presence among HBO Max’s top 10 films in 2026 is helping the film recover some of the money it failed to earn at the box office.
Made on a reported budget of $168 million, Furiosa grossed $174 million worldwide, far short of the more than $300 million it reportedly needed to break even; estimates put Warner Bros.’ loss at over $100 million. Director George Miller has written another Mad Max script, but Warner Bros. has declined to distribute it, leaving the project in need of a distributor before it can move towards production.
In short
- Furiosa is drawing viewers on HBO Max.
- The film grossed $174 million against a $168 million budget.
- Warner Bros. has passed on distributing Miller’s next Mad Max film.
