Apple TV’s ‘Murderbot’ Creator Officially Signals the End of the Book Series

Martha Wells has indicated that the next Murderbot novel could be the last in The Murderbot Diaries, saying she has only one book under contract and is still working out its direction. The news offers a possible endpoint for the series behind Apple TV’s adaptation, although Wells has not confirmed that the ninth book will definitely conclude it.

Platform Decay, the eighth book, was released in May and follows Murderbot as it uses a mental health module while trying to rescue members of its chosen human family. Apple TV’s first season adapted All Systems Red and earned a 95% Rotten Tomatoes critics’ score; its second season, which began production in April, has no premiere date. The show’s second season is reported to combine the next three books and have longer episodes.
