APRA AMCOS Reports Record-High Revenue, Local Content Streams Experience ‘Devastating’ Dip
APRA AMCOS reported record revenue of A$857.4 million for the financial year, an 8.8% rise, with net distributable revenue up 10.6% to A$755.7 million. The results were driven by digital licensing, international royalties and public performances, but the organisation also warned that local music is losing ground on streaming in Australia and New Zealand.
Digital revenue, which accounts for more than 53% of the total, rose 12.5%; international revenue reached a record A$103.2 million. More than 91% of music streamed in Australia was imported, as was 96% of music consumed in New Zealand, and APRA AMCOS chief executive Dean Ormston warned Australian members’ streaming share could approach 5% within five years. The group, which represents more than 135,000 members, also says it is pressing for creators to retain control of and receive payment for works used in AI training and generation.
