Arc Raiders devs say that using generative AI voice acting was necessary as actors “would just go crazy if they had to read all of that”
Embark Studios says generative AI voice lines helped it manage the volume and frequent changes of dialogue in Arc Raiders, while acknowledging that some players found the results disruptive. The developers say they are replacing AI-generated lines with human recordings where possible and do not intend to replace voice actors.
Audio director Bence Pajor said recording every possible line for new features, items and weapons would be impractical, particularly as the game changes after its October 2025 release. Actors Jo Rideout and Diana Gardner described scheduling benefits, but Gardner questioned whether she could claim ownership of the final performance made using her work. Chief creative officer Stefan Strandberg said the studio wants to celebrate actors and give their performances more space; the game’s use of AI has also drawn criticism, as did its earlier use in The Finals.
