Architects’ Sam Carter speaks out on impact “anxiety and constant focus” on his voice after online criticism

NME ·

Architects singer Sam Carter says online criticism of his voice has worsened his anxiety and made performing feel joyless. He has described how constant scrutiny affected his ability to scream onstage, and urged people to be kind, saying public performers are human and cannot be perfect.

Carter said the difficulties intensified after Architects’ Rock am Ring set, where he tried a new vocal technique in front of about 90,000 people. He has worked with a vocal coach, attends weekly therapy and takes medication for anxiety; the band is currently touring Europe with KoRn and is due to play UK dates later this month.
