Arrest made after man threatened and gun fired
A 39-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of firearm offences after a gun was fired during an incident in Barnsley in which another man was reportedly threatened. South Yorkshire Police is appealing for witnesses, warning that such reckless use of firearms could easily have resulted in serious harm even though no one was injured this time.
Officers were called to Smithies Lane at around 22:05 BST on Saturday following reports of gunshots. The suspect was later arrested in Harrogate, North Yorkshire, and remains in custody. Detective Inspector Joanne Chambers said the consequences of firing a gun "can be devastating" and urged anyone with information to come forward, stressing that communities should not be endangered by those willing to pull a trigger.
