A 30-year-old Australian woman, Cronin Brianna Lani, has died after falling around 80 metres from Bali's notorious "T-Rex" cliff formation at Kelingking Beach on Nusa Penida island on Saturday. Her death has prompted an outpouring of criticism from Australians and other travellers online, who have described the site's steep, narrow paths as a long-standing "death trap" that has repeatedly been flagged in warnings on social media without any apparent action being taken.

Rescuers said Ms Lani had left the designated path to find her own route to the cliff edge when she slipped and fell into the ravine below at around 9am local time. Rough seas ruled out a sea evacuation, forcing a rescue team to carry her body back up the difficult stairway in an operation lasting about ninety minutes; she had suffered multiple fractures and was later taken to a local medical clinic. Social media users cited previous warnings, including a 2024 TikTok video cautioning against the descent to nearby Diamond Beach due to "numerous deaths over the years," while the rescue effort involved Indonesia's Search and Rescue Agency, navy, police, lifeguards and local residents.
