Australian supernatural horror film “Effigy” has finished production and released its first-look images. Set in 1989 England, it follows the Marsh family after they uncover a mysterious doll and suffer a violent haunting, with the threat becoming increasingly focused on their daughter. The project matters as an emerging Australian genre production aiming for a festival premiere and a more emotionally driven approach to supernatural horror.

Directed by Myles McEwen and Ripley Stevens, the film stars Chris Gun, Lauren Koopowitz, David Daradan and Saya Kraetzer. Its story incorporates psychosexual themes alongside depression, identity and faith, while its creators say they designed it to evoke late-1980s cinema. Black Mandala Films produced the film, with Michael Kraetzer and Nicolás Onetti as executive producers; no festival or release date has yet been announced.
