Avengers: Doomsday Off to Huge Start in Advance Ticket Sales, Second-Biggest Trailer Launch Ever Behind Only Spider-Man: Brand New Day

IGN · 3 hours ago

Avengers: Doomsday has made a strong commercial start almost five months ahead of its December release, with its first proper trailer and advance ticket sales both performing exceptionally well. The result eases some of the pressure on Marvel Studios, which has endured a run of underwhelming box office returns since 2019's Avengers: Endgame, and suggests strong public appetite for the studio's next big ensemble film ahead of Avengers: Secret Wars next year.

According to Variety, the film took $16.5 million in advance ticket sales on its first day, despite being available only in premium formats at 1,000 US cinemas — double the first-day pre-sales of 2024's Deadpool & Wolverine, which went on to gross $1.33 billion worldwide. The trailer itself drew 503 million views in 24 hours, making it Disney's biggest trailer launch ever and the second-biggest of all time behind Spider-Man: Brand New Day's 718.6 million. The film, which opens on 18 December alongside Dune: Part III, will not screen in Imax, as Disney instead promotes its own "Infinity Vision" premium format, a move Imax has dismissed as a marketing tactic.

  • Avengers: Doomsday's trailer and pre-sales hugely outperform expectations
  • $16.5m in day-one tickets, 503m trailer views in 24 hours
  • Film skips Imax, opens 18 December against Dune: Part III
