‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Racks Up $16.5 Million in Advance Ticket Sales After First Day (EXCLUSIVE)
"Avengers: Doomsday" has taken $16.5 million in advance ticket sales during its first day of availability, a strong early signal for what is already tipped to be one of the biggest film openings of the year. Disney's Marvel Studios opened sales alongside a new trailer showing the Avengers and X-Men uniting against Doctor Doom, and the figure is notable given that tickets were only available for premium formats in 1,000 domestic cinemas, with no access yet to Imax screens.
The film opens on 18 December and will expand to more than 4,000 North American screens, with premium showtimes for 17-18 December reportedly already largely sold out. Imax is unavailable because "Dune: Part III", opening the same day, has secured exclusive use of Imax screens for three weeks, prompting Marvel to launch its own "Infinity Vision" cinema certification instead. The first-day haul is twice that recorded for 2024's "Deadpool & Wolverine" (which went on to gross $1.3 billion), though comparisons remain uncertain given Marvel's mixed post-pandemic run, aside from big ensemble hits like "Spider-Man: No Way Home" and "Deadpool & Wolverine"; the last full Avengers reunion, 2019's "Avengers: Endgame", remains the second-highest-grossing film ever with $2.7 billion.
