Marvel Studios has released the first full-length trailer for Avengers: Doomsday, giving fans their clearest look yet at Robert Downey Jr.'s return to the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the villain Doctor Doom, complete with a first taste of his Latverian accent. The two-and-a-half-minute trailer follows months of brief character teasers and arrived as tickets went on sale and Marvel prepared for its San Diego Comic-Con presence, forming part of a deliberate push to recapture the box-office and cultural momentum of Avengers: Endgame following a run of more modest superhero releases.

The footage shows Thor warning an assembled roster of heroes about the scale of Doom's threat, underlined by a scene in which the villain casually blocks a Stormbreaker strike, before Steve Rogers makes a surprise reappearance to Thor's evident shock. Directed once again by Joe and Anthony Russo, the film brings together a sprawling cast spanning the Avengers, Fantastic Four, Thunderbolts and the Fox-era X-Men, and is set for release on 18 December, the same day as Dune: Part Three, with a direct sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, already scheduled for 2027.
