Avery the Poké Kid’s Father Pleads With The Pokémon Company to Make a Trading Card in Honor of His Late Son
Avery the Poké Kid’s father, Christian Garcia, has publicly asked The Pokémon Company to create a trading card honouring his son. Avery, a much-loved Pokémon Trading Card Game fan and influencer, died aged 12 after a seven-year battle with pancreatic cancer; his family hopes a card could help preserve his connection to the hobby he loved.
Garcia made the request in an Instagram video on 6 November, saying the family was trying to carry on Avery’s legacy. Avery’s final pack-opening video went viral after his death when he pulled a 30th Anniversary Jirachi special illustration rare card, leading fans to suggest a Jirachi-themed tribute. The family has also urged sellers to remove unauthorised listings using Avery’s name or likeness, after the card’s price rose following the video.
