Explained simply
Knightfall is a Batman comic-book storyline in which the villain Bane defeats Bruce Wayne and leaves him unable to carry on as Batman. The story then shifts to Jean-Paul Valley, known as Azrael, who takes over the role of protecting Gotham, Batman’s fictional city.
Azrael’s approach to the job differs from Bruce Wayne’s, and his violent methods bring him into conflict with other heroes, including Nightwing, a former Robin. The film is part of an animated series adapting the Knightfall story, with a further instalment planned to continue it.
