Behind the Scenes of Obama’s Acting Cameo in ‘Life, Larry’: Blaming Larry David for His Tan Suit Debacle, Improvising Lines and Ranting About Ketchup
Barack Obama made an acting cameo in the series finale of HBO’s “Life, Larry and the Pursuit of Unhappiness”, revisiting the criticism he received for wearing a tan suit at a 2014 press conference. The sketch recasts Larry David as the person responsible for the choice, turning a long-running political-media controversy into a self-aware comedy scene.
The show, produced by Obama and Michelle Obama’s Higher Ground company, follows David inserting himself into major moments in US history. In the sketch, David spills a mango smoothie over the navy suit Obama intended to wear, persuades him that it is “casual Friday” and encourages the tan alternative; co-creator Jeff Schaffer said Obama also improvised material during filming.
