Benito Skinner Teases “2016 Millennial Hopecore” For ‘Overcompensating’ Season 2: “Sorry For The Wait”

Benito Skinner says the second season of *Overcompensating* will lean into what he calls “2016 millennial hopecore”, bringing a nostalgic, sweet and funny feel to its depiction of the 2010s. The creator and star said he is proud of the season and apologised for the wait, while also hinting that the story will take a darker turn.

Prime Video ordered the new season in September 2025. Skinner has revealed he will play two characters and teased “something sinister”; Holmes has been promoted to series regular as Hailee, with Tom Francis, Aisha Dee and AnnaSophia Robb among the guest cast. The semi-autobiographical series draws on Skinner’s experience of coming out while at college.
