Two Dutch women in their 40s, born in Mumbai and adopted as babies by separate Dutch families, have discovered through a DNA test that they are biological sisters, decades after first meeting as teenagers and forming a close friendship. Meena Geltink and Minal Tijssen met in their early teens at an event for Indian adoptees, where friends noted their striking resemblance, and though they had no proof of a blood relation, they wrote to each other for years as "Sis" before losing touch when Minal moved to France.

The truth emerged this year after Minal took a DNA test in April while visiting her parents in the Netherlands, and messaged Meena the result on Facebook in May, confirming a "100% match" as full sisters sharing the same biological parents. The pair, now aged 43 and 44, met in person again in August for an emotional reunion filled with tears, hugs and laughter, describing the discovery as confirmation of an instinct they had felt since childhood.
