Bizarre moment student sent flying by runaway tire that got loose from truck

A 19-year-old student was knocked to the ground in Santiago, Chile, when a large tyre came loose from a passing truck and struck him. The incident was captured on surveillance video and has drawn attention to the danger posed by the runaway wheel.

The tyre bounced along the road in an underpass, hitting at least one other vehicle before hitting the student on 29 October. Witnesses said he was dazed and had difficulty moving an arm, with some bleeding on his head. He suffered multiple contusions but is out of serious condition, according to Mayor Jaime Bellolio, who said the vehicle involved had been identified.
