‘Blade Runner 2099’ Shows the ‘Silver Linings’ of a Replicant Takeover
Showrunner Silka Luisa says *Blade Runner 2099* will explore the hopeful possibilities of a future ruled by replicants, rather than focus only on familiar dystopian fears. Set after a replicant revolution, the series imagines them using skills once developed in human service to help restore a planet damaged by ecological collapse.
The limited series is set 80 years after *Blade Runner* and 50 years after *Blade Runner 2049*. Michelle Yeoh plays Olwen, a replicant Blade Runner searching for rogue agents, alongside Hunter Schafer as Cora, a human posing as a replicant; the series is due to premiere on 25 November. Luisa also argues that the replicants are more akin to people than today’s AI bots, while Schafer said Yeoh helped her with the physically demanding fight scenes.
