Bluesky tests iPad app and adds external profile links

Engadget ·

Bluesky has begun beta testing an iPad version of its app, aiming to improve how the social network looks and works on Apple tablets. The update also lets users add external platform links to their profiles, giving creators a way to direct followers to other content or support options.

iPad users can share reports of bugs or other problems through the Beta Features section in Settings. Profile links are added through the Links section of the Edit Profile menu and can point to services such as Patreon or Ko-fi, as well as websites and newsletters.

In short

  • Bluesky is beta testing iPad support.
  • iPad users can report bugs through Settings.
  • Profiles can now link to external platforms.

Explained simply

Bluesky is a social network where people post messages and follow other users. It is built around the AT Protocol, a system designed to let different social apps connect, though most people use Bluesky through its own app.

The service competes with platforms such as X and Threads for users and creators. Creators often share work across several services or use separate sites to offer paid support, so links on a profile can help followers find those other options.
