Leaked ‘Mass Effect 5’ Trailer Is Basically James Bond in Space
Developing story first seen 54 minutes ago
A trailer for the cancelled next Mass Effect game has surfaced online, offering a glimpse of a more espionage-focused direction that evokes James Bond in space. The footage is notable because it gives fans a sense of the game BioWare had planned before Electronic Arts’ decision to close the studio ended its development.
The roughly two-minute clip, shared by a Reddit user and confirmed as authentic by Bloomberg journalist Jason Schreier, is titled Mass Effect: Universe. It follows a human ex-soldier in a tense bar conversation with an asari, with Liara T’Soni also appearing as the encounter turns into a coordinated confrontation. The opening disclaimer says it uses in-engine footage and pre-production assets; it is not a gameplay demonstration.

Explained simply
Mass Effect is a science-fiction role-playing game series made by BioWare, set in a galaxy where humans and alien civilisations meet. Its stories often follow soldiers and other specialists dealing with threats that span several worlds.
Liara T’Soni is an asari, a long-lived alien character who has appeared throughout the series. Asari can live for centuries and are known for their role in galactic politics and diplomacy.
BioWare developed the earlier games as part of Electronic Arts, a major video-game publisher. A studio closure brought development of the next instalment to an end, so the footage offers context about a project that will not be released as planned.
