Bournemouth’s faith in their performances is starting to pay off
Bournemouth’s calm response to a winless start under new manager Marco Rose is beginning to look justified. Despite sitting 18th after six matches, their underlying performances suggested they were creating enough chances to earn better results.
They won the expected-goals battle in four of those games, and a model based on chance quality put them on 8.4 expected points, compared with three actual points. Late goals and costly errors contributed to dropped points, while Chelsea scored five times from chances worth only 1.1 expected goals in a 5-1 win; Bournemouth created chances worth 1.38.
In short
- Bournemouth started with three draws and three defeats.
- Their chance creation suggested they deserved more points.
- Rose stayed positive as results lagged behind performances.
