Brave widow of slain UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson comes face to face with Luigi Mangione for first time

Fox News ·

Paulette Thompson, widow of murdered UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, came face to face with his killer, Luigi Mangione, for the first time on Friday as he pleaded guilty to federal charges over the assassination. The hearing, held at a Manhattan courthouse before Judge Margaret Garnett, marks a significant step towards resolution in a case that drew intense public attention, with Mangione facing a possible life sentence.

Mangione confirmed he understood the maximum penalty he could face and told the court he had posed as an investor to obtain details of a UnitedHealthcare conference, before using a 3D-printed gun to shoot Thompson on 4 December 2024. Prosecutors said they had planned to present evidence including security footage of Mangione arriving in New York and following Thompson at the Hilton hotel. Sentencing has been scheduled for 18 December, and NYPD Commissioner Jessica Tisch used the occasion to condemn those who have glorified Mangione, insisting "murder is not a message" and detailing the extensive investigation that followed the killing.
