Brazilian player falls down tunnel during goal celebration
Brazilian footballer Jacy Maranhão suffered an ankle injury after falling down a tunnel while celebrating a goal for Coritiba against Chapecoense in Brazil's top flight. The defender headed the ball in during the 41st minute but, in his enthusiasm, vaulted an advertising board and disappeared down a passageway leading to the away team's dressing room.
Jacy, 29, was able to climb back out but was substituted shortly after half-time due to the injury; he described the incident as a case of getting "carried away", noting that centre-backs rarely score. Adding to the misfortune, his goal was later ruled out by VAR, though Coritiba went on to win the match 2-1. It was not the first such mishap at the Couto Pereira Stadium in Curitiba — a similar fall down the same tunnel happened to Cameroonian striker Joel in 2014.
