Bruno Guimarães has joined Arsenal from Newcastle for £75m, signing a four-year contract with an option for a further year. The Brazil midfielder said he wanted a new challenge and hopes to win trophies, while Arsenal believe his arrival strengthens an already deep midfield as they pursue major honours.

Newcastle reluctantly sold their 29-year-old captain, who led the club to the Carabao Cup last year, their first trophy since 1955. Guimarães had wanted the move after talks with Arsenal’s Mikel Arteta and Andrea Berta, and joins Declan Rice, Martin Ødegaard, Martin Zubimendi, Mikel Merino and Myles Lewis-Skelly among Arsenal’s midfield options.
