A 27-year-old woman has been named as the victim killed when a Tesla mounted a pedestrian crossing and crashed into a café at Westfield Knox shopping centre in Melbourne. Jennifer Keen was on her lunch break from a nearby call centre when she was struck by the car, which then went on to hit the outdoor dining area of Martini+Co. Colleagues have paid tribute to her as a warm and popular young woman, underlining the shock felt by those who knew her at the sudden and public nature of her death.

Keen was walking about 100 metres from her workplace when the crash happened on Monday in Wantirna South. Bystanders and paramedics attempted to revive her at the scene but she died from her injuries. Two other people were hurt but did not require hospital treatment, while the driver, a 55-year-old woman, was taken to hospital with minor injuries and is assisting police. Investigators from the Major Collision Investigation Unit believe the crash was accidental and are examining why the car failed to give way at the crossing before veering into the café, which remains closed.
