Variety · 2 hours ago

Freestyle Digital Media, the distribution arm founded by Byron Allen, has acquired "Mooch," a golf crime comedy written, directed by and starring Jeff Ryan. The film is set to launch on digital platforms on 14 August, marking a notable pickup for the company as it continues to build out its slate of independent releases.

Ryan has retained theatrical rights to the film through his own company, First-Names Films, and plans a national roadshow of one-night screenings developed with Emo Nite, combining the film with live performances from artists on its soundtrack. The story follows Shane, the oldest caddy at his local golf club, who is drawn into digging up dirt for a charismatic New Jersey nightclub owner. The ensemble cast includes Scott Cohen, Katerina Tannenbaum, Geneva Carr, Molly Brown, Ashby Gentry, Will Chase, Louis Cancelmi, Olli Haaskivi, Ian Dolley, Natalie Roy and Oscar Williams.
