California politician brutally ambushed while campaigning at local park: ‘Why are you hurting me?’

Newark City Councilmember Eve Marie Little says she was attacked while speaking with residents at a local park about planned changes to green spaces. She is recovering from injuries and says the assault has left her shaken, raising concerns about the safety of elected officials meeting constituents in public.

Police said the attack happened on 25 October near Newark and Cedar boulevards, and that the assailant left in a vehicle. An eyewitness and automated number plate readers helped police identify a suspect; officers arrested a 31-year-old Fremont woman on 29 October. The Alameda County District Attorney’s office has formally charged her in connection with the alleged attack.
