Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 Support Crossplay Between PS4 and PS5, Activision Confirms

IGN · 4 hours ago

Activision has confirmed that its newly released PlayStation ports of Call of Duty: Black Ops 1 and 2 do support crossplay between PS4 and PS5, resolving confusion that had spread among players since the games' surprise launch last week. The clarification, posted via the official Call of Duty Updates account on X/Twitter, matters because a perceived lack of cross-platform play had been one of the chief complaints levelled at the ports, alongside criticism of their technical quality.

According to Activision, PS4 and PS5 players can matchmake with one another, though there is no cross-platform play with PS3 or other hardware, and Season Pass owners can be matched with non-Season Pass owners in both titles. The ports, developed by Iron Galaxy, drew criticism for a low frame-rate cap and low resolution, yet both games quickly reached the top of the PlayStation Store's "Best Selling" tab. Each title costs $39.99 (or $19.99 as a limited-time PlayStation Plus offer), with DLC priced at $29.99 each ($9.89 for PS+), as Activision also presses ahead with the series' next entry, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4.

  • Black Ops 1 and 2 ports do support PS4u2013PS5 crossplay.
  • No cross-play with PS3 or other platforms.
  • Ports criticised technically but topped PlayStation Store best-sellers.
