Director Peter Berg has confirmed that the forthcoming Call of Duty film will be set within the Modern Warfare universe, revealing the news at Fanatics Fest. The confirmation, delivered via a social media post from Call of Duty's official account, gave fans their first concrete detail about the project since it was announced earlier in the year, clarifying which corner of the sprawling franchise the film will draw on even though plot, cast and other specifics remain unrevealed.

The film is set for a cinema release on 30th June 2028, with Activision head and producer Rob Kostich having previously said the studio would only proceed "if it's right", pointing to its partnership with David Ellison and an ambition to ground the story in human authenticity while retaining "epic scope". Beyond confirming the setting, no further information about the movie has since been shared, with the announcement standing as the sum total of what is publicly known about the project to date.
