A Calgary homeowner has faced vandalism and online abuse after decorating their large house with multiple American flags and pro-Trump signage, sparking a bitter dispute with neighbours. The unidentified owner, a US citizen who has lived and worked in Canada for over a decade, said eggs and bagged dog faeces had been thrown at the property, and rejected calls from critics for the display to be removed, arguing he was entitled to express his political views on his own land.

Police confirmed a vandalism report was filed on 23 August but said there were insufficient grounds for criminal charges. The display includes a large American flag flanked by a "Make America Great Again" sign and a jokey "Trump 2028" banner, and has drawn criticism from some neighbours who argue it is inappropriate to fly foreign political symbols in Canada, while others defend the homeowner's right to display them. The row has intensified amid rising US-Canada trade tensions, including threatened American tariffs of up to 50% on steel and automotive imports and retaliatory Canadian measures, with the property previously vandalised in 2024 following Donald Trump's election win.
