Mexican filmmaker Bruno Santamaria Razo's debut feature has secured North American distribution through Strand Releasing following its premiere at this year's Cannes Critics' Week. The coming-of-age drama follows a young boy in 1990s Mexico City as he navigates his emotions and processes his father's HIV diagnosis. The narrative jumps forward three decades, allowing the adult protagonist to revisit and reframe childhood memories with mature perspective.
The acquisition marks a significant milestone for Mexican cinema, as this is the country's first film selected for the Critics' Week section in approximately two decades. The production has already earned recognition, winning multiple awards at the Cinélatino Toulouse festival. Strand Releasing plans a North American release in spring 2027, following negotiations with international sales representatives.
