Capcom has confirmed it plans to revive more dormant video game franchises after Onimusha: Way of the Sword sold over a million copies on its launch day. The samurai-themed action title is the first new mainline Onimusha game since 2006, and its strong debut follows other recent Capcom hits including Resident Evil Requiem and Pragmata, prompting the company to say it wants to "re-activate" IPs that haven't seen a new instalment in years to maximise the value of its back catalogue.

Capcom is already revisiting older series through an Okami sequel and Mega Man: Dual Override, and has recently re-released the first two Dino Crisis games on Steam, with Dino Crisis 2 due on PlayStation Plus later this year, fuelling speculation about a long-awaited fourth entry. Other franchises seen as ripe for revival include Dead Rising and Lost Planet, which has been dormant since 2013, while Devil May Cry (last mainline entry in 2019, 41 million copies sold) and Ace Attorney (last new title a decade ago, 15 million copies sold) are viewed as the biggest untapped opportunities in Capcom's catalogue.
