Carville said Republicans are currently damaging their own reputation without needing sustained Democratic attacks, while attributing Democrats’ weakness to their broad coalition. Republican consultant Mary Marslender disputed that assessment, arguing that accusations of socialism reflect how some Democrats describe themselves and claiming Carville’s comments were political spin.
