A conservative business group led by former Virginia Attorney General Jason Miyares has launched “Socialism Watch”, tracking 32 congressional bills it says promote socialist policies. The proposals cover healthcare, energy, housing, labour, taxation and infrastructure, while Miyares argues they would weaken private enterprise and draw lessons from his family’s experience under Cuba’s communist government.

The bills include a nationwide fracking ban from 2029, restrictions on fossil-fuel infrastructure and exports, government-backed job guarantees, Medicare for All and taxes on unrealised wealth gains. Other measures include a $300 billion housing programme declaring shelter a government-guaranteed right, a National Infrastructure Bank and a $1.6 trillion Green New Deal for Public Schools; supporters describe such plans as efforts to reduce poverty, homelessness and inequality, while critics say they would expand federal control and displace private providers.
