Charges authorized for Michigan student who allegedly assaulted Jewish commentator
Prosecutors in Washtenaw County, Michigan, have authorised charges against University of Michigan student Temulun Togochog after video appeared to show her assaulting Jewish commentator Liz Benichou at a campus free-speech event. The case raises questions about campus safety and the limits of conduct at political events, while the university has said violence and interference with others’ expression will not be tolerated.
The prosecutor’s office says Togochog will face one count of assaulting, resisting or obstructing an officer and two counts of assault or assault and battery. A felony warrant and court date are expected after she is arraigned; no date has been set. The event also featured commentators Cam Higby and Joe Redden, and the university says it cannot discuss individual student conduct matters because of federal privacy laws.
In short
- Michigan prosecutors authorised three charges against Temulun Togochog.
