Cheerios makes major change to cereal boxes after years of consumer complaints
Cheerios and Ziploc have introduced a resealable inner bag intended to keep cereal fresh and make pouring easier. The change addresses years of consumer complaints about cereal bags that are difficult to close, a small everyday issue that has prompted many people to use clips or containers.
The new PantrySeal bag has a zipper-style closure that stops partway across the top, forming a pour spout designed to reduce spills. A December 2025 survey found that 90% of cereal eaters take extra steps to preserve freshness after opening a box. The packaging is initially available for original and Honey Nut Cheerios at Walmart from 27 October, with a wider retail rollout expected in the coming months.
