Elijah Blue Allman, the 50-year-old son of Cher and the late musician Gregg Allman, has been indicted on a felony criminal mischief charge after allegedly breaking into a woman's home in Windham, New Hampshire, and smoking a cigarette on her couch. The case is notable given Allman's public struggles this year, including a drug overdose hospitalisation and a separate arrest just two days earlier over a disturbance at a prestigious private school he had no connection to.

Allman was arrested on 1 March after allegedly smashing through a back door while the homeowner was inside; she called 911 while hiding in a closet. He pleaded not guilty to criminal mischief, burglary and breach of bail, and a grand jury has now indicted him on the criminal mischief charge, with arraignment set for 2 October. The earlier incident, at St Paul's School in Concord, saw him charged with two counts of simple assault plus criminal threatening, criminal trespass and disorderly conduct after allegedly posing as a prospective parent, acting belligerently and poking a student with his cane; a competency hearing on that case is scheduled for November. Proceedings have stalled as Allman is currently receiving treatment at New Hampshire State Hospital.
