Christopher Nolan’s Sci-Fi Spy Thriller Is Officially Taking Over HBO Max

Collider · 4 hours ago

Christopher Nolan's 2020 sci-fi spy thriller Tenet is currently enjoying a resurgence in global streaming popularity on HBO Max, six years after its polarising theatrical release. The renewed interest comes amid a banner year for Nolan, whose Oppenheimer follow-up, The Odyssey, has become one of 2026's biggest films and is tipped for major Academy Awards recognition, helping revive attention on his back catalogue.

Tenet, starring John David Washington and Robert Pattinson, grossed $376 million against a $200 million budget on release during the COVID-19 pandemic, meaning it failed to turn a profit, though it won the Oscar for Best Visual Effects and earned a Best Production Design nomination. While the film lacks a dedicated US streaming home, it is now placing in the HBO Max top 10 in more than 15 countries globally and in the Apple TV VOD top 10 in more than 25 countries.
