Cinemark Won’t Screen Brad Pitt’s ‘Cliff Booth’ Movie Over Netflix’s Demands, CEO Says
Cinemark and Regal will not screen The Further Mis-Adventures of Cliff Booth on their Imax screens, leaving AMC as the only major chain set to show the Brad Pitt sequel. Cinemark chief executive Sean Gamble said the proposed short cinema release would not support the wider theatrical industry and could set a precedent affecting future negotiations.
The film, written by Quentin Tarantino and directed by David Fincher, opens in cinemas on 25 November and moves to Netflix on 23 December, giving it a four-week theatrical run. Cinemark cited the short window as its reason for declining; the company also reported quarterly revenue of $1.05 billion, up from $857.5 million a year earlier, and Gamble expects cinema windows to expand.
In short
- Cinemark and Regal are passing on the film’s Imax release.
- Cliff Booth moves to Netflix four weeks after its cinema debut.
- Cinemark says the short window could affect future industry deals.
