Claude Personal Finance vs. ChatGPT Finances: What sets them apart?
Anthropic has launched Personal Finance for Claude, positioning it as a rival to ChatGPT’s Finances feature. Both tools connect to bank accounts to help users understand spending and plan for goals, but neither is intended to provide expert financial advice; their differing privacy settings may influence which users choose.
Both services use Plaid and offer read-only access to linked accounts. Claude can view account details and up to two years of transactions, and its Personal Finance conversations are not used for model training by default; OpenAI’s training setting follows users’ general ChatGPT preferences and is on by default. Anthropic says Claude stops seeing data after an account is unlinked, while OpenAI says synced data is deleted within 30 days; Anthropic also says its tool has no ads or sponsored recommendations.
In short
- Claude and ChatGPT both offer bank-linked finance tools.
- Claude excludes Personal Finance chats from training by default.
- OpenAI says synced account data is deleted within 30 days of disconnection.
