The Verge ·

Coolpad has opened pre-orders in China for the Cool X Wide, a budget Android phone with an unusually wide screen inspired by the proportions of some foldable phones. At around $150, it offers a tablet-like display without a folding mechanism, placing the design in a much cheaper category.

The 6.38-inch screen has a 16:10 aspect ratio, up to a 90Hz refresh rate and 1,158 x 720 resolution. The base model has a MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of storage; higher-capacity versions cost about $180 or $209. It also has a 50-megapixel main camera, a 4,600mAh battery and Android 16, but supports only 4G. Shipping is expected to begin on 8 November.

In short

  • Coolpad’s Cool X Wide costs about $150 in China.
