Cops complain about LeBron James during J.R. Smith assault arrest: ‘I’m still mad’
Police officers discussed LeBron James with former NBA player J.R. Smith shortly before arresting him in Texas after confirming he had an active warrant. The exchange, captured on newly obtained body-camera footage, shows an officer saying he was still angry about the 2025 trade that sent Luka Dončić from Dallas to the Lakers and blaming James.
Smith was stopped on 28 September after officers suspected he had a warrant. Southlake police wanted him over an allegation of assault causing bodily injury involving a woman with whom he had a family, household or dating relationship; he was arrested and released a short time later. His lawyer said Smith was presumed innocent and wanted the matter resolved, and Smith is due at a court hearing next month.
