Coventry City have completed the permanent signing of goalkeeper Carl Rushworth from Brighton & Hove Albion, ending months of speculation after his impressive loan spell at the CBS Arena last season. The move, reportedly worth a club-record £22m though neither club has confirmed the figure, rewards Rushworth for a standout campaign that helped Coventry secure promotion back to the Premier League after a 25-year absence.

The 25-year-old featured in all 46 of Coventry's Championship league games last season, keeping 17 clean sheets and winning the division's Golden Glove award. Rushworth, who joined Brighton from hometown club Halifax Town in 2019, never made a senior appearance for the Seagulls and had six separate loan spells over seven years before finally settling permanently at Coventry, where manager Frank Lampard praised his professionalism and impact on the promotion-winning side.
