The Guardian's tester reviews the CurrentBody Multi Light Therapy LED mask, a device offering five distinct light modes designed to tackle a broad range of skin concerns, from fine lines to blemishes and pigmentation. This matters because the reviewer, who has trialled 14 such masks, previously rated CurrentBody's Series 2 red-light mask as her favourite for anti-ageing but found it a "one-trick pony" limited to a single concern. The new model's versatility promises to address that shortcoming, though it carries a steep price of just under £500.

The mask offers five modes — "clearing" for acne, "restoring" for calming, "brightening" for pigmentation, "anti-ageing" and a distinctive "complete" setting — and contains 566 LEDs arranged across 110 points on the face, including red, near-infrared, blue, yellow and green wavelengths. The tester ran each mode for four nights before selecting a favourite for a two-month trial, assessing comfort, fit and ease of use, and expressing a preference for app-free controls. She notes expert advice from dermatologists and ageing specialists, who gave LED therapy a measured but positive verdict, cited the strongest evidence for red and blue light, and warned those with darker skin tones that blue light may cause hyperpigmentation.
