The false quotes appeared in an article first published by The Jerusalem Post and later picked up by The Hollywood Reporter, announcing Malkovich's participation in the Tel Aviv date as part of a wider European and Middle Eastern tour. The Jerusalem Post has since issued a correction, with producer Alon Yurick apologising for what he called a misunderstanding, and has removed the fabricated quote. The performance had been due to take place on 13 April 2027 at the Charles Bronfman Auditorium; "The Music Critic" was created by violinist and composer Aleksey Igudesman, and Malkovich noted he has performed the touring piece in 47 countries over nearly two decades.
