Dance Up-And-Comer of the Month BrokinPaper Made Music Inspired By Gesaffelstein — Then Gucci Called

Billboard · 2 hours ago

BrokinPaper, the electronic music alias of NYC-based producer Harrison Lee, has moved from underground dance circles into the world of high fashion after being recruited by Gucci to DJ two of its events this year, including an afterparty in Berlin and a Times Square show following a Demna-led runway presentation. The bookings mark a significant milestone in a career Lee has built since his teenage years, and reflect his ambition, inspired by artists like Gesaffelstein and Boys Noize, to create heavy, cerebral electronic music capable of crossing over into other genres and industries such as fashion.

Lee began making music in a metal band before turning to electronic production around 2010, drawing influence from acts including Skrillex, Boys Noize and Gesaffelstein. His 2019 EP The Maslow and track "Sapiosexuality" helped establish his sound and grow his streaming numbers, while "66023C" from 2020's NeoBrute later featured in a 2025 Zara haircare advert that he credits as the turning point towards brand recognition, ultimately leading to Gucci's interest. His third studio album, Function Over Form, released on 9 September, includes "Damage", his first track to reach editorial playlists on Spotify and YouTube Music.
