D&D Fiends and Foes is a new monster book — see the first pages here
Publisher Ten Speed Press is releasing a new Dungeons & Dragons book, Fiends & Foes, written by Erin M. Evans, and gaming website Polygon has been granted an exclusive first look at two of its interior spreads. The book offers a fresh, in-character perspective on the tabletop role-playing game's most iconic villains, matters because it draws on decades of celebrated antagonists — from Strahd von Zarovich to Tiamat, Vecna and Demogorgon — some of whom have reached mainstream audiences through the Netflix series Stranger Things.
The book follows Farideh, the tiefling protagonist of the Forgotten Realms novel series Brimstone Angels, as she undertakes a quest for Glaysa, Princess of the Nine Hells, encountering notorious foes such as the drow goddess Lolth, the beholder Xanathar and the archmage Halaster Blackcloak. Much of the text takes the form of Glaysa's commentary — a mix of banter, gossip and argument. The revealed spreads explore the nature of evil gods and the origins of the lich Acererak, master of the deadly Tomb of Horrors dungeon. Fiends & Foes is due for release on 24 November.
