Wizards of the Coast has announced D&D Icons, a new initiative bringing prominent past Dungeons & Dragons creators back to develop material for Dragonlance, Greyhawk and the Forgotten Realms. The line aims to use their experience and fan recognition to inform future releases, making it more than a nostalgia project.

Margaret Weis and Tracy Hickman will create their first Dragonlance tabletop product in over 20 years, while R.A. Salvatore will return to Drizzt Do’Urden and Luke Gygax will draw on his father Gary Gygax’s unfinished Greyhawk notes. Joe Manganiello will serve as chief creative officer, and the Greyhawk project could arrive in 2027; Weis and Hickman’s involvement is notable after their 2020 legal dispute with Wizards.

  • D&D Icons reunites influential creators with Wizards of the Coast.
  • Dragonlance, Greyhawk and Drizzt projects are planned.
  • A Greyhawk release is expected as early as 2027.
