Def Leppard Guitarist Vivian Campbell’s Cancer Has Returned

Rolling Stone · 2 hours ago

Def Leppard guitarist Vivian Campbell has revealed that his cancer has returned, continuing a battle with Hodgkin's lymphoma that began in 2013 and previously recurred in 2015. The 63-year-old told El Salvadoran radio station YSKL that a stem cell donor transplant he underwent in January 2025 failed to keep the disease at bay, and he is now undergoing further treatment to manage it.

Campbell described the winter of 2023 as the only time he genuinely feared the illness might kill him, prompting him to pursue the transplant as his best hope of survival. He said he expects to need another transplant with a different donor within a few years in an attempt to achieve a cure, but insisted he has no plans to slow down, remaining active with Def Leppard, his side project Last in Line, and rally driving. Campbell joined Def Leppard in 1992 following the death of Steve Clark, and the band released their latest single, "Rejoice," in January.
